Steve Rossé fell in love with the tuba as a skinny junior high school student at the age of 14 in his native state of California. Before Steve discovered the tuba, his only talent was riding a unicycle. At first, Steve was challenged by the mass of air required to play the tuba, as well as the physical strength needed to lift and carry the instrument. He was determined to master this massive beauty. He later received a band scholarship at Arizona State University where he studied with Daniel Perantoni from 1983-87. In those days, marching band was his life. After many challenges and missing out at auditions, Steve won his international audition for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 1988. His global orchestral life is highlighted by thirty-three years as a full-time orchestral principal tubist, three Carnegie Hall appearances with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, the Philadelphia, and Sydney Symphony Orchestras, and can be heard on many Hollywood movie soundtracks. Dozens of his students now occupy full-time fulfilling tuba careers.
